TCLT Standing Committee

To bridge the gap between technology and teaching methodology and curriculum as well as to enhance the exchange on technology-based Chinese language teaching, Hamilton College initiated the First Conference on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century (TCLT1), June 8-11, 2000. With the success of TCLT1 and a growing demand for this conference, TCLT2 was co-sponsored by Hamilton College and Yale University (Yale University, June 7-9, 2002), which was followed by TCLT3, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and Columbia University (Columbia University, May 28-30, 2004). Along with the increase of overseas scholars (from more than 10 countries and regions) participated in TCLT1 and TCLT2, TCLT3 was renamed the 3rd International Conference and Workshops on Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in the 21st Century. With this new title, TCLT has organized TCLT4, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and University of Southern California (University of Southern California, May 5-7, 2006), TCLT5, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and University of Macau (University of Macau, June 6-8, 2008), TCLT6, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and the Ohio State University (the Ohio State University, June 12-14, 2010), and TCLT7, co-sponsored by Hamilton College and University of Hawaii (University of Hawaii, May 25-27, 2012). TCLT8 will be held at Tufts University, Boston, June 6-8, 2014.

A combination of in-depth panel discussions on technology-enhanced Chinese language teaching and hands-on workshops on up-to-date technologies in Chinese language teaching is the distinctive feature of TCLT conferences, which have attracted hundreds of professionals from over 200 institutions in 17 countries and regions.

To facilitate the exchange and discussion on technology and Chinese language teaching, TCLT launched its peer-reviewed on-line journal Technology and Chinese Language Teaching in 2000 and Series of U.S. Technology and Chinese Language Teaching (《美国科技与中文教学》,中国社会科学出版社) in 2012.

TCLT conferences and workshops have received financial support from the President's Office of Hamilton College, the Dean's Office of Hamilton College, the Center for Language Study at Yale University, Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Center at Columbia University, the Consortium for Language Teaching and Learning headquarters at Yale University, Cultural Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Los Angeles, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Macau, National East Asian Languages Resource Center, East Asian Studies Center, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, Foreign Language Center at Ohio State University, College of Languages, Linguistics, & Literature, National Foreign Language Resource Center, National Resource Center East Asia and Endowment for the Humanities at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
